In 2025, tea exports from Yuhang District, Hangzhou delivered an outstanding performance: the annual export value reached 390 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of one-third compared with 2024, hitting a record high. Accounting for nearly 60% of the district’s total agricultural product exports, tea has become the core pillar of Yuhang’s specialty agricultural products “going global”.

According to customs statistics, Yuhang’s tea export value surged from 225 million yuan in 2024 to 390 million yuan in 2025. The product range covers green tea, scented tea, black tea, oolong tea, tea bags, tea powder and other categories, exported to more than 30 countries and regions including Europe, the United States, Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia.

The matcha industry has become the strongest growth engine. By the end of 2025, Yuhang was home to 20 matcha manufacturers, with a matcha plantation area of over20,000 mu and an annual matcha output of 3,500 tons—nearly one-third of the national total—with an output value of 540 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 54.3%. Overseas orders of leading enterprises represented by the “Six leading enterprises of Jingshan Matcha” doubled.

Yuhang’s tea industry is accelerating its shift toward high-end development, shifting from the export of bulk raw tea materials. High value-added products such as intelligent matcha machines, matcha bottle caps and matcha food sell well overseas. Sales of deep-processed new tea beverage raw materials by key tea enterprises account for more than 85%, achieving the leap from “selling raw materials to providing finished products and innovative solutions”.

Supported by the international prestige of Jingshan Tea Banquet, inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Yuhang has built the cultural identity of “Jingshan, the Hometown of World Matcha,A Time-honored Heritage Enduring Forever”. Jingshan tea has appeared on international stages including the Paris Olympic Games, Expo 2025 Osaka and the UNESCO Headquarters. In 2025, the average unit price of Yuhang’s exported tea products reached 140 yuan per kilogram, a year-on-year increase of 4.5%.

The foundation for industrial development continues to strengthen. Yuhang has built 26,700 mu of green and organic tea bases, of which more than 8,700 mu of matcha bases are managed in line with EU and Japanese standards. In 2025, nine new production lines and over 550 grinding devices were added, boosting matcha output by 119% year-on-year. Innovations such as the world’s first intelligent matcha machine, low-sugar portable tea drinks and matcha bottle caps continue to emerge, with technology empowering high-quality industrial development.

Going forward, Yuhang will continue to improve export services and support, refine inspection, logistics and risk early warning mechanisms, accelerate the registration of the regional public brand “Yuhang (Jingshan) Matcha”, and develop high value-added cross-border products such as tea health products and tea cosmetics, so that Chinese matcha can fragrance the world from Jingshan.
