Recently, Zhang Yiyuan, a time-honored Beijing brand with a century-long history, has officially gone global for the first time with its own jasmine tea. More than 2,250 kilograms of jasmine tea, valued at over 100,000 US dollars, has been successfully delivered to Canada.
Inside the fragrant workshop, workers are busy sorting, blending, and packaging the tea. Fine batches of scented tea are being packed and shipped to customers one after another.
“In the past, most tea was exported overseas as raw materials. Now, to expand globally under our own brand represents a qualitative leap for us,” said Wu Di, head of Zhang Yiyuan’s overseas business. As a century-old brand embodying the essence of Beijing’s tea culture, Zhang Yiyuan’s tea-making technique has been inscribed on the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List, making it a shining cultural namecard of the capital. “We are honored and proud that our brand can bring international consumers a touch of oriental New Year charm,” he added.
