What factors determine the durability of tea brewing

The so-called “durable tea-brewing” refers to the ability of tea leaves to maintain good aroma and taste after multiple brewing processes. The durable obe can still maintain the richness and layered taste of the tea soup even after being brewed multiple times, while the nondurable often become bland and flavorless after just a few steepings.
The durability of tea-brewing, referring to how many times it can be steeped while maintaining its rich flavor and layered taste, is mainly influenced by the following factors:

  1. Type
    The degree of durability differs from types of tea. Generally speaking, Oolong tea, Pu’er tea, and black tea tend to be more durable-brewing, while green tea and yellow tea are relatively less durable-brewing.This is because, during the production, different types of tea undergo different processes and degrees of fermentation, resulting in different release speeds and durations of their inherent substances.
  2. Quality
    Tea made from high-quality raw materials is usually more resistant to multiple steepings, as the abundant internal substances within the superior ingredients gradually release aroma and flavor during brewing. However, low-quality raw materials, with fewer internal substances, tend to become bland and tasteless after several steepings.
  3. Tenderness
    Tea leaves with higher tenderness tend to be less resistant to multiple steepings, as less internal substances were contained in them, which are easily released after several steepings. However, older tea leaves contain more internal substances, which can be gradually released during steepings, making them more resistant to multiple steepings.
  4. Production Process
    The processing technique of tea leaves also affects their durability in brewing. For instance, tea leaves that have undergone processes such as rolling, fermentation, and roasting tend to have a tighter internal structure, which allows the release of their internal substances more slowly. Therefore, they can maintain their aroma and flavor for a longer time even after multiple brewing .
  5. Form
    The shape of tea leaves can also influent their steeping durability. Tea in bulk tends to be less durable due to its loose structure, allowing the inner substances to release more quickly. In contrast, compressed teas such as Pu’er tea and dark tea bricks are more durable because the leaves are tightly pressed together, releasing the inner substances more slowly during steeping.
