President Xi Jinping pointed out that tea originated from China and becomes popular all over the world. The establishment of the “International Tea Day” by the United Nations embodies the international community’s recognition and attention to the value of tea, and is of great significance to revitalizing the tea industry and promoting tea culture. As a major tea producing and consuming country, China is willing to work with all parties to promote the sustainable and healthy development of the global tea industry, deepen the integration of tea culture, and let more people know tea, love tea, share tea fragrance and share a beautiful life.

Tea is one of the three major beverages in the world, with more than 60 tea producing countries and regions as well as a population of more than 2 billion tea drinkers. In December 2019, the United Nations General Assembly announced that May 21st of each year will be designated as “International Tea Day” to commend the economic, social and cultural values of tea and promote the sustainable development of global agriculture. During the “International Tea Day” this year, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Peoples’ government of Zhejiang Province carried out a series of publicity and promotion activities through the Internet under the theme of “Tea and the World, Taste and Enjoy Together “.
